The Hollywood scam

On December 10, a new comedy thriller "Hollywood Scam" was released in Ukraine. The film is a remake of the 1982 film of the same name. The director and screenwriter of the film was George Gallo, known to the audience for the films "Intermediaries" and "29th Street".

The film tells the story of producer Max Barber (Robert De Niro), who has been unable to make a successful film for a long time. Max borrows money to film a new project for crime boss Reggie Fontaine (Morgan Freeman). When Barbera finds out that the lead actor in his film has good insurance, he decides to fake his death in order to get his money and pay off the mafia.
This is certainly not a comedy about an unbridled boozer, not some kind of "Bachelor party in Vegas", but also not a philosophical view of a person's fate through a glass. This film is a tragicomic, unobtrusive reflection on how routine pulls us in as we age and that we should be more open, more forgiving of our loved ones and ourselves. Accept your failures without drama and move on. When you're 18 and you get drunk with friends for no reason, just because you can, don't you delve into the nature of such happiness? Somewhere you subconsciously realize that you have a long and interesting life ahead of you, all roads are open, you are young and full of strength and energy. So why not see how you do it? And under 40, everything doesn't look so rosy. So it's important to find the right balance between alcohol and everything else in life.

This film has a lot of information about the filming of films and will be interesting to people who are interested in what is happening behind the scenes. I think the film is suitable for younger audiences and older viewers who like children's humor. Apart from the comedic elements, the film also has a good dramatic aspect about two older men who are a little uncertain about their lives and careers in the world of cinema. But the filmmakers didn't devote enough time to this aspect.

The creators had a chance to create something unconventional and new, and the fans appreciated this attempt. But we are a mediocre film with lost potential. Although, as a fan, I still really enjoyed watching the plot unfold.

The acting is at a high level. Robert De Niro does a good job as a film producer who tries to kill the star of his film. However, this is not the best comedy he has starred in in recent years. Unfortunately, Morgan Freeman only has a small role in this movie, but it's nice to see him back as the villain.
